ABOUT
Born in the Netherlands, Eugène van Lamsweerde has lived and worked in Romilly-sur-Seine, in the
Champagne region of France, since 1974. He is self-taught. As a sculptor, he created some thirty monumental
works in public spaces. Since the 1980s he devoted himself to painting as well. In 2004 a collaboration started
with the photographers Inez & Vinoodh and this joint work has been shown in museums and galleries in
Dallas, New York, Stockholm, São Paulo, and Amsterdam. Currently, Eugène works with ink and collages.
His work is included in public collections, notably at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Teylers Museum
in Haarlem, the Koopman Collection at the Royal Library of The Hague, the Fonds National d’Art
Contemporain and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain in
Saint-Étienne, and the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain de Champagne-Ardenne. In 1988, Lamsweerde was
named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in France for his entire body of work.
